A Mediterranean-inspired knockdown rebuild in Burleigh Waters, combining sculptural curves, warm rendered finishes and lush subtropical landscaping. The building design brings a relaxed coastal character with bold form, texture and a strong sense of arrival.

A bold expression of contemporary country living, this barndominium-inspired building design combines the strength and simplicity of a traditional rural barn with a refined, modern residential character. Deep charcoal cladding, warm natural timbers, stone detailing and soaring gabled forms create a powerful sense of arrival, while expansive glazing draws the surrounding landscape into the home.

Set against rolling Australian countryside, eucalyptus trees and sun-washed grasslands, the design feels grounded in its environment — robust, honest and unmistakably rural. Sweeping timber braces and generous covered outdoor areas soften the industrial barn form, creating a home that feels equally suited to quiet mornings overlooking the paddocks, long family gatherings and relaxed country entertaining. It is a modern interpretation of the Australian homestead: rugged in character, generous in scale and deeply connected to the land.

Set within the distinctive waterfront environment of Marina Mirage on the Gold Coast, these floating structures explore a different approach to marina-based design — treating the water not simply as a backdrop, but as a fundamental part of the experience.

Designed for R Crawley and GC Marine, the concept establishes a series of contemporary floating spaces for Riviera Australia, combining commercial presence, hospitality, display and waterfront activation within structures that feel purpose-built for their marina setting. Rather than creating conventional buildings positioned beside the water, the design places the experience directly onto it.

The first structure is conceived as a sophisticated floating office, showroom and client pavilion. Its composition is deliberately strong and sculptural, with a restrained rectilinear form contrasted against the movement and reflections of the surrounding marina. A highly textured perforated external screening system wraps the main volume, providing visual depth, privacy and solar protection while creating an ever-changing façade as sunlight moves across the surface throughout the day.

Large glazed openings maintain a constant visual connection with the harbour, while external decks extend the usable space beyond the enclosed office and allow visitors to engage immediately with the surrounding water. The floating platform has been designed almost as an extension of the marina pontoons, creating a seamless relationship between circulation, workspace, outdoor areas and the waterfront.

Above, the structure becomes a highly visible display feature within the marina. The elevated rooftop terrace provides an additional entertaining and viewing space, while the lightweight overhead framework creates an opportunity for the presentation of a prestige motor vehicle above the pavilion. This unexpected display element reinforces the relationship between luxury marine and automotive design, giving the floating office a distinctive identity and a strong visual presence when viewed from across the harbour.

The elevated Riviera branding has been incorporated into the overall composition rather than treated as an applied element. Its scale and position provide a clear visual marker from surrounding marina areas while retaining the clean horizontal expression of the structure below.

The material palette combines marine-grade metals, glass, dark structural elements, warm timber tones and highly tactile screening, creating a refined contemporary character while remaining connected to the practical nature of the marina environment. These materials are intended to respond strongly to the Gold Coast climate, with sunlight, shadow and reflections from the water continuously changing the appearance of the structure throughout the day.

The second floating structure develops the concept into a more open hospitality, entertainment and client engagement pavilion. Here, the built form becomes deliberately lighter, more relaxed and more permeable.

A series of sweeping tensile shade structures creates a recognisable silhouette above the floating deck, providing generous protection from the Gold Coast sun while retaining the openness expected of a waterfront destination. Their sculptural forms introduce movement and softness to the design and help establish the pavilion as a prominent destination within Marina Mirage rather than simply another pontoon space.

Beneath the canopies, a sequence of informal lounge settings, landscaped planters, gathering areas and hospitality spaces creates an environment suited to client functions, product launches, boating events, corporate entertaining and relaxed waterfront gatherings. The layout allows people to move naturally between seating areas, display zones and the marina edge while maintaining strong views toward the surrounding boats, water and Gold Coast skyline.

A central hospitality element provides a natural focal point within the pavilion, while furniture, planting and carefully defined gathering spaces break the larger floating platform into a series of more intimate zones. This allows the space to function comfortably both as an active event venue and as a relaxed setting for smaller conversations, client meetings and informal entertaining.

Both structures have been designed to feel unmistakably connected to the Gold Coast lifestyle. Open-air entertaining, boating, subtropical planting, generous shade, expansive water views and the distant high-rise skyline all become part of the overall experience. By locating these spaces directly amongst the vessels, visitors are immersed in the Riviera marine environment in a way that would be difficult to achieve through a conventional land-based showroom or office.

There is also a deliberate relationship between luxury and informality throughout the design. The structures are refined enough to represent a premium Australian motor yacht brand while remaining relaxed, open and approachable — reflecting the character of boating and waterfront living on the Gold Coast.

From a distance, the vertical marina piles, flags, branded signage and tensile roof forms create strong visual markers across the water. At closer range, the design becomes increasingly tactile, with timber decking, textured screening, planting, furniture, glass balustrades and the constantly moving reflections of the marina creating multiple layers of detail.

Together, the two floating concepts establish a cohesive waterfront identity for Riviera Australia, R Crawley and GC Marine at Marina Mirage. One provides a more enclosed and refined commercial, office and display environment, while the other creates an open hospitality and event-focused destination. Despite their differing functions, both share the same underlying design philosophy — bringing the built form onto the water and creating spaces that belong specifically to the marina environment rather than simply being placed within it.

The project is ultimately an exploration of what a contemporary Gold Coast marine destination can become: part office, part showroom, part entertainment space and part experience. The designs celebrate the boats, the water and the lifestyle surrounding them, creating a distinctive waterfront presence that is both commercially functional and visually memorable.

A floating expression of the Gold Coast — contemporary, luxurious, open to the water and designed around the experience of Marina Mirage itself.

Designed for R Crawley and GC Marine, these floating offices reimagine the workplace as something inherently connected to the Gold Coast’s waterways. Set within a city defined by its extraordinary network of canals, marinas and coastal lifestyle, the concept takes the office off the land and places it directly within the environment that drives the marine industry.

The intent was to create something unmistakably unique — a bold, modular floating structure that feels playful, contemporary and distinctly Gold Coast. Stacked volumes, large areas of glazing, open terraces and unexpected colour give the building a strong identity, while allowing light, water and marina activity to become part of the everyday working experience.

Rather than treating the water as simply a backdrop, the design uses it as the foundation of the concept. Boats can pull alongside, staff and visitors arrive directly from the marina, and the offices become part workspace, part showroom and part waterfront destination. The floating platform allows the structure to respond naturally to the marine setting while creating a memorable presence among the surrounding yachts, pontoons and waterfront activity.

There is an intentional sense of fun to the composition — pastel colours, layered boxes, palms, screening and open-air spaces give it a relaxed confidence that reflects the Gold Coast itself. It is commercial space without the conventional corporate feel: vibrant, adaptable and immersed in the lifestyle of the city.

Ultimately, the project celebrates what makes the Gold Coast unique. In a place shaped by water, boating and an enormous canal network, the idea was simple: if your business lives and breathes the marine industry, why shouldn’t the office float too?

Set within the leafy surrounds of Brookfield, this contemporary residence is defined by softness, movement and sculptural form. Sweeping curves, rounded corners and elegant arched details bring a sense of rhythm to the façade, balancing bold proportion with a refined, almost effortless simplicity. The interplay of smooth rendered surfaces, vertical cladding and carefully framed openings gives the home a distinctive identity, creating a design that feels both expressive and beautifully resolved within its landscape.

Tuscan charm meets the Australian landscape. 🌿☀️
A little piece of the Mediterranean, reimagined for an Australian acreage setting.
I've always had a strong appreciation for traditional Spanish and Mediterranean design, particularly the old Tuscan country homes and estates. Through my travels, it's something I've taken a lot of inspiration from, not just for their appearance, but for the history and reasoning behind how they were built.
Traditionally, these homes evolved around their climate and the materials available locally. Thick masonry walls, natural stone, lime-based renders, clay roof tiles, shaded courtyards and covered outdoor spaces all served a purpose, providing protection from the summer heat while creating homes that would stand for generations.
There are similarities with our Australian climate, particularly the strong sun and importance of outdoor living as a climatic response to building design.
For this custom home in Belmont, Brisbane, I've drawn on those traditional Spanish/Tuscan influences through the earthy textured render, stonework, arched windows, detailed keystones, decorative mouldings, curved balcony balustrades and carefully proportioned rooflines.
The challenge has been to capture that traditional Mediterranean character while responding to the Australian setting, with generous roof overhangs, shaded outdoor living spaces and a layout that takes advantage of the surrounding landscape.
For me, it's about understanding where these design elements originated and why they worked, rather than simply reproducing a particular style.
A traditional European influence, thoughtfully adapted to the Australian way of living.

A refined residential manor home set within the natural surrounds of Clagiraba, combining strong symmetry, generous glazing and warm material detailing. The building design creates a calm resort-like feel, with expansive indoor-outdoor living, layered landscaping and a strong connection to its rural setting.

Set into the leafy hills of Kenmore, Brisbane, this residence is defined by a bold, modern angular language that responds to the steep landscape with confidence. Strong projecting forms, deep recesses and expansive glazing create a dramatic composition, while warm timber, textured stone and refined neutral finishes soften the geometry and connect the home back to its natural Australian setting.

Framed by eucalyptus, native planting and distant bushland, the home feels both sculptural and grounded — a contemporary Brisbane residence shaped by light, elevation and the landscape around it.

A floating expression of the Gold Coast — contemporary, luxurious, open to the water and designed around the experience of Marina Mirage itself.

Set within the raw beauty of the Australian countryside, this barndominium building design is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional rural barn — bold, grounded and deeply connected to its landscape.

Dark corrugated metal forms create a strong agricultural character, softened by natural stone, expansive glazing and warm interior light. Multiple pitched rooflines break down the scale of the home while generous outdoor living spaces open towards the surrounding paddocks, native grasses and rolling eucalyptus-covered hills.

The restrained palette allows the Australian landscape to become part of the design itself — golden afternoon light, rugged stone outcrops, gum trees, magpies and distant kangaroos bringing an unmistakable sense of place.

It is country living with a refined edge: robust, timeless and expressive, designed to feel as though it has always belonged in the landscape.

Expansive glazing captures the changing country light, while long afternoon shadows and magpies moving through the landscape reinforce its unmistakably Australian identity.

The façade is defined by a confident mix of soft white rendered forms, warm vertical timber detailing, natural stone and deep-set openings, creating a layered street presence that feels both refined and relaxed.

Upstairs, the curved balcony edge, cascading planting and sculptural vertical fins introduce movement and softness to the elevation, while also providing shade and privacy to the glazing behind. The repeated vertical detailing gives the home a strong rhythm without making the façade feel overly formal.

At ground level, the stone feature pier anchors the composition and provides a natural contrast against the warmer garage and entry finishes. The large panel-lift garage door has been carefully integrated into the façade rather than treated as a separate element, allowing the lower level to read as one cohesive design. A tall vertical entry handle adds another subtle bespoke detail to the front entrance.

The landscaping continues the Mediterranean influence through olive-style planting, textured grasses and restrained flowering species, adapted to suit a Brisbane setting. A contemporary Japandi-inspired display home in Brisbane, this design explores the balance between Japanese restraint and Scandinavian warmth. Clean horizontal forms, deep roof overhangs and a restrained material palette give the home a strong, composed presence, while natural timber tones, textured cladding and finely detailed metallic screening add warmth and depth.

The upper level is softened by integrated planting and cascading greenery, creating a deliberate contrast against the darker façade elements and giving the home a sense of calm within its suburban setting. Close-spaced screening provides privacy while still allowing light and shadow to animate the elevation throughout the day, while the defined Axon cladding joints and expressed window framing reinforce the precision of the overall design.

At ground level, the entry and garage are treated as part of the composition rather than secondary elements, using warm vertical timber textures to create a welcoming and highly resolved street presence. Landscaping, water and natural materials bring another layer of softness to the home, reflecting the Japandi philosophy of simplicity, craftsmanship and connection with nature.

The result is a Brisbane display home that feels refined, contemporary and quietly luxurious — a design that relies less on excess and more on proportion, texture, detail and atmosphere.

A contemporary knockdown rebuild in Burleigh, combining soft earthy clay finishes, natural stone and curved forms to create a warm, relaxed coastal home with a distinctly individual building design.

Designed for a narrow inner-Brisbane lot, this home reinterprets the familiar character of the traditional Queenslander within a compact, contemporary footprint. The design responds to the tight setbacks and established streetscape typical of suburbs such as Paddington, where neighbouring homes sit closely together and every part of the site needs to work intelligently.

The upper level draws strongly from traditional Queenslander character, with a deep street-facing verandah, lightweight linear cladding, decorative timber brackets, slender posts and vertically proportioned balustrading. A soft palette of neutral whites and pale warm greys is paired with a Surfmist metal roof, creating a timeless exterior that feels calm, familiar and well suited to Brisbane’s subtropical environment.

At ground level, the double garage is carefully integrated beneath the main living form to maximise the narrow frontage without overpowering the home. Vertical batten screening softens the entry, adds privacy and creates a strong connection between the two levels. The layered façade provides depth and shadow throughout the day, helping the home maintain the detail and visual interest expected within a residential character streetscape.

While the home respects the qualities of the surrounding Queenslanders, it is not intended as a reproduction. Set against the canals of Calypso Bay, the design is intended to feel bright, calm and resort-like, with the yachts, water and neighbouring contemporary homes forming part of the overall setting. Gabion stone walls to each side add another layer of texture and help ground the crisp white forms, while the low horizontal proportions and clean detailing keep the home modern and suited to the Gold Coast lifestyle.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of Tamborine, the design brings together two very different influences — the raw Australian landscape and the calm, tropical atmosphere of Bali.

Calista Urban Village reimagines what inner-city housing can be — a collection of compact, individually designed micro homes on freehold lots in the heart of Southport.

Located on Lenneberg Street within the Southport Priority Development Area, the project takes advantage of a progressive planning framework that challenged the conventional apartment and townhouse model. Rather than relying on strata title and shared body corporate ownership, the land could be divided into remarkably compact individual freehold lots, giving residents ownership of both their home and the land beneath it.

The result is a distinctly different approach to urban density: small footprints without sacrificing individuality, ownership or a genuine sense of home. Carefully considered building forms, natural light, ventilation, screening, landscaping and strong connections to the street allow each residence to feel independent despite the compact urban setting.

Building on an award-winning micro-lot housing model pioneered on Lenneberg Street, Calista demonstrates how thoughtful building design and innovative planning can create greater housing diversity without defaulting to conventional high-rise development. It is a more human-scaled vision for density — one centred around ownership, liveability and making better use of well-connected inner-city land.

Calista Urban Village is small-lot living with a bigger idea behind it: more homes, individual ownership, considered design and a different way of belonging to the city.

The Nest HQ Urban Business Residences were conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Brisbane’s traditional live-work model — bringing business, retail and residential life together within a compact two-storey urban form.

Positioned within Fitzgibbon Chase in Brisbane’s north, the development places commercial, office or retail space directly at street level, creating an active relationship with the surrounding neighbourhood, while private one and two-bedroom residences sit above. This combination allows people to live and work from the same property while contributing to a more connected, walkable and energetic local centre.

Forming part of the broader Nest precinct, the residences sit alongside retail, commercial and community uses, helping establish a genuine neighbourhood hub for the surrounding Fitzgibbon Chase community. Strong street presence, traditional pitched forms and contemporary detailing give the development its own identity while reinforcing the idea of business and everyday life existing side by side.

Located in Townsville, this industrial commercial development combines high-clearance workshop spaces with modern offices and administration areas. The building was designed around the practical needs of each tenancy, providing large industrial roller-door access, clear vehicle movement, dedicated entries and convenient onsite parking.

The exterior introduces a more refined identity than a typical industrial workshop, using strong cantilevered awnings, dark aluminium screening, natural stonework and a clean contemporary material palette. These elements create a professional street presence while providing shade and responding to Townsville’s hot tropical climate.

Overall, the development balances the durability and functionality required of a working industrial facility with comfortable, well-presented office spaces for staff, clients and visitors.

This one feels particularly personal.

Designed as a knockdown rebuild in Banyo, this home was created for a client and his wife as a place that could genuinely support the way they want to live together — without feeling clinical or institutional. The home is designed for NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) – High Physical Support, with accessibility carefully integrated into the planning from the very beginning.

Rather than allowing compliance to define its character, the design draws on a distinctly Queenslander language — lightweight cladding, traditional gable forms, generous proportions and a soft, familiar residential feel. Level access, circulation and the practical requirements of High Physical Support sit quietly within the design, allowing it to simply feel like a home.

I’m really proud of this one. It represents what good disability building design should be about: creating a home around the person, their relationships and their everyday life, while still giving the building warmth, identity and character.

Set within the established inner-Brisbane suburb of Red Hill, this Specialist Disability Accommodation development has been conceived as a High Physical Support SDA villa that places quality of life, dignity and everyday independence at the centre of the design. Rather than presenting as institutional disability housing, the development has been designed to read as a collection of refined contemporary homes — residential in character, carefully landscaped and connected to the surrounding neighbourhood.

The design draws on Mediterranean influences, expressed through soft curves, arched openings, white textured rendered walls, natural stone, fine aluminium screening and a restrained material palette. These elements give the homes a sense of warmth and permanence while still feeling appropriate to Brisbane’s subtropical climate. The white sponge-finish render creates depth and softness across the façade, while the arched window and entry forms provide a recognisable residential identity. Integrated screening introduces privacy and solar control without making the building feel enclosed or defensive.

At ground level, the accommodation has been planned specifically around the needs of NDIS participants requiring High Physical Support. The intention is to provide generous, accessible homes capable of supporting participants with significant physical disability while maintaining a strong sense of personal ownership and normality. Wider circulation areas, step-free movement, accessible external spaces, considered doorway and room proportions, adaptable living areas and provision for specialist supports are incorporated as part of the overall design approach rather than appearing as obvious institutional additions.

A key component of the village model is the inclusion of Onsite Overnight Assistance (OOA) accommodation above. Locating the OOA component within the development allows support to remain close and readily available when required, while maintaining an important degree of separation between a participant's private home and staff accommodation. This supports the principle that assistance should be accessible without dominating the residential environment. Participants can retain privacy, independence and control over their own home while knowing that appropriate overnight support can be available within the same development.

The broader design philosophy is centred around the idea that the built environment can have a meaningful influence on a person's wellbeing, confidence and sense of belonging. High Physical Support housing does not need to feel clinical. Natural light, views toward landscaped areas, attractive external spaces, carefully considered materials and a home that a participant can feel genuinely proud of can all contribute to a more positive day-to-day living experience. The architecture of disability housing should not constantly remind somebody of their disability; it should provide the background for an ordinary, fulfilling life.

Landscaping is therefore treated as an important part of the development rather than an afterthought. Manicured lawn, subtropical planting, cacti, textured foliage and established Brisbane vegetation create a calm garden environment around the homes. These spaces provide opportunities for participants to spend time outdoors, interact with support workers, receive visitors and engage with the neighbourhood. Small moments — sitting outside in the afternoon sun, watching native lorikeets, speaking with neighbours or simply enjoying a private garden — are considered fundamental parts of residential life.

Its Red Hill location is equally important. Positioned within Brisbane's established inner suburbs, the development allows participants to live within a genuine community rather than being separated from it. Red Hill provides proximity to Brisbane's inner-city services, employment areas, health facilities, public spaces, shops and community infrastructure, while retaining the leafy residential character for which the suburb is known. This connection to an existing neighbourhood reinforces the broader objective of SDA: enabling people with disability to live with greater choice and independence as part of the wider community.

The streetscape has deliberately been designed to avoid the visual language traditionally associated with supported accommodation. From the street, the development presents as a high-quality contemporary Brisbane residence. Accessibility and support requirements are integrated discreetly into the planning so that the participant's home is defined first by its design quality, comfort and character, rather than by its disability-related function.

Ultimately, the project represents an approach to High Physical Support SDA that treats good design as an essential part of participant wellbeing. The objective is not simply to satisfy functional requirements, but to create homes where people can feel secure, independent, connected and proud of where they live. Through considered accessibility, integrated OOA support, high-quality materials, landscaped surroundings and a strong connection to the Red Hill community, the development aims to demonstrate how specialist housing can be both highly functional and genuinely uplifting.

Designed as a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) High Physical Support home in Yamba, New South Wales this project rethinks accessible living through a distinctly Mediterranean lens. Rather than allowing disability requirements to define the character of the home, the design places lifestyle, identity and architecture first — creating a space that feels relaxed, coastal and genuinely cool to live in. Soft curves, earthy rendered finishes, tactile materials and landscaped outdoor spaces give the home warmth and personality, while the planning quietly integrates the requirements of NDIS High Physical Support living.

An internal courtyard becomes the heart of the home, drawing natural light, greenery and fresh air deep into the plan while creating a private outdoor retreat that can be enjoyed from multiple rooms. Wide circulation spaces, accessible transitions and considered connections between indoor and outdoor areas are incorporated without making the home feel clinical or institutional. The result is a home designed around independence, dignity and enjoyment — proving that NDIS specialist disability housing can be highly functional while still feeling architectural, expressive and completely at home in the relaxed coastal character of Yamba.

Located in Port Macquarie, this High Physical Support (HPS) Specialist Disability Accommodation home has been designed to provide a highly accessible living environment without feeling clinical or institutional. The efficient single-level layout incorporates step-free access, generous circulation and considered connections between the home, garden and street. Subtle Art Deco-inspired curves, detailed cladding and a hand-painted mural give the façade a strong individual identity, while the Palm Springs-influenced landscaping creates a relaxed coastal character. The result is practical, dignified housing that supports greater independence and everyday wellbeing.

The building design combines modern form, integrated landscaping and thoughtful accessibility to create a welcoming residential environment connected to the surrounding streetscape.

A contemporary NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation development in Port Adelaide, comprising an exclusive collection of just ten generously sized apartments designed specifically for the SDA High Physical Support category.

Each apartment has been carefully planned to provide the additional space, circulation and functionality required by participants with significant physical support needs. The larger internal proportions allow comfortable movement for mobility equipment, appropriate areas for daily support and greater flexibility for residents to personalise their homes. Accessibility is integrated naturally throughout the development, supporting independence without creating an institutional appearance.

The building design presents a strong yet welcoming urban form, articulated through recessed balconies, vertical screening, contrasting masonry elements and clearly defined entries. A restrained palette of warm white framing, soft neutral cladding, natural stone and bronze-toned screening gives the development a refined residential character while responding to the industrial and heritage qualities associated with Port Adelaide.

Integrated landscaping softens the street frontage and creates a comfortable transition between the private apartments and the surrounding public realm. Generous windows, balconies and screened outdoor areas provide natural light, privacy and opportunities for residents to remain connected with the activity of the neighbourhood.

With only ten large High Physical Support apartments, the development offers a more private and considered residential environment. It demonstrates how purpose-built SDA can combine advanced accessibility requirements with strong building design, creating homes where people with disability can live with greater independence, receive the support they require and feel genuinely connected to their community.

The intent is to create a place that feels far removed from an institutional facility — instead offering participants and residents a calm, welcoming and dignified environment that supports independence, accessibility and quality of life.

The building incorporates accessible resident and respite spaces, generous circulation, step-free entry and carefully considered connections between indoor and outdoor areas, while the dedicated office provides a professional base for support staff, carers, administration and coordination of services. The upper level screening introduces privacy and shade while maintaining natural light, with stone, soft neutral finishes and landscaped subtropical planting helping the development sit comfortably within its Southport setting. Overall, the project balances the practical requirements of specialist care with a strong residential character, creating a supportive environment for residents, families and staff alike.

A vibrant mural becomes a key part of that identity — introducing colour, individuality and a sense of place to the central façade. Together, the curved forms, textured finishes and artwork create a development that feels welcoming, considered and human, while supporting the practical needs of residents, visitors and care providers.

Located in Redland Bay, this NDIS High Physical Support villa combines soft modern curves, warm timber cladding and integrated accessibility to create a home that feels welcoming rather than institutional. Robust materials and carefully considered planning help create an environment suited to residents with more complex behavioural, mobility and support requirements.

Set within a leafy Ferny Grove setting, the contemporary building form is softened by native Australian landscaping and mature trees, giving the development a calm residential character. This Loganlea knockdown rebuild is an NDIS SDA High Physical Support home designed around independence, dignity and a genuine sense of belonging. For me, projects like this carry a deeper meaning — it’s not simply about creating a beautiful home, but about understanding how thoughtful design can change the way someone lives every single day. I wanted this home to feel warm, contemporary and completely residential, while quietly integrating the accessibility and support its residents need. That balance between function, freedom and feeling is what makes this project so important to me.

This SDA Robust Corner Duplex has been designed to provide two highly durable, independent homes for participants with complex behavioural and support needs, while still maintaining the appearance and character of a contemporary residential development. The corner-site arrangement allows each dwelling to establish its own identity, entry, driveway and private outdoor space, creating greater separation between participants and reducing unnecessary interaction, noise and sensory conflict.

Designed around the NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation – Robust category, the building incorporates resilient, high-impact materials and vandal-resistant fixtures that can withstand heavy use while remaining deliberately inconspicuous and residential in appearance. Participant bedrooms are acoustically insulated, lighting is recessed to reduce the potential for damage, and the internal planning considers safe areas of retreat and clear egress paths for participants, support workers and other residents.

The external environment is equally important. Strong perimeter fencing, controlled access points and secure private open spaces provide safety without making the property feel institutional. Level pathways, simple circulation, well-defined entries, durable landscaping and carefully considered sightlines help create a predictable and low-stimulation environment. Where appropriate to the individual participant, additional breakout or sensory spaces can also be incorporated to provide a dedicated area for regulation, learning or retreat.

Ultimately, Robust SDA is not simply about making a house harder to damage. It is about designing a safe, dignified and genuinely liveable home that responds to the individual needs of the participant, protects those living and working within it, and still feels like somewhere a person can be proud to call home.

NDIS High Physical Support Kyabram, Victoria

Designed as a contemporary Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) High Physical Support home, this Kyabram residence brings accessibility into a familiar residential form rather than allowing disability requirements to define its appearance.

The home has been designed around generous circulation, step-free access and spaces that can support participants with significant physical assistance needs, while maintaining privacy, comfort and a strong sense of home.

Externally, warm brick, timber-look cladding and restrained contemporary finishes give the residence a character that feels appropriate to its Victorian regional setting. Accessible pathways and a clear, sheltered entry are integrated naturally into the landscaping, creating an arrival experience that is practical without feeling institutional.

The design is intended to support independence, dignity and everyday living, while allowing for assistive technology, mobility equipment and support-worker assistance associated with High Physical Support accommodation.

For us, good SDA building design is about more than compliance — it is about creating a home where accessibility feels considered, intuitive and simply part of the design.

This Fully Accessible Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) home in Thrumster, Port Macquarie has been designed to combine everyday accessibility with the character and comfort of a contemporary residential home.

The design prioritises clear circulation, step-free access, generous internal spaces and practical accessibility, while maintaining a strong street presence through warm brickwork, dark contemporary cladding, large areas of glazing and carefully considered landscaping.

Rather than allowing accessibility requirements to define the appearance of the home, the focus has been on creating a place that feels welcoming, private and genuinely residential — supporting independence, ease of movement and day-to-day living without compromising on design.

A contemporary barn-inspired residential design developed as part of a builder product range, combining the strong proportions and familiar character of traditional rural forms with a refined urban expression. Corrugated steel cladding, brickwork, bold gables and simple detailing create a distinctive yet highly buildable home designed to stand out within the modern Gold Coast market.

Set within the leafy surrounds of Upper Kedron, Brisbane, this residence brings together the relaxed character of a traditional Queenslander with the refined detailing of classic Hamptons design.

The façade is deliberately light and elegant, finished almost entirely in crisp white with Surfmist fascia and guttering, creating a fresh coastal feel that suits Brisbane’s subtropical climate. The upper level is defined by strong symmetrical gables, exposed decorative timberwork, generous balconies and detailed balustrading, while the central circular window creates a distinctive focal point and gives the home its own identity.

Traditional Queenslander influences can be seen through the elevated proportions, deep verandah-style balconies, lightweight linear cladding and strong indoor–outdoor connection. These elements are combined with more formal Hamptons detailing including **multi-pane glazed windows, carefully proportioned glaze bars, feature stonework, a traditional panelled garage door and white Hamptons-style boundary fencing**.

The landscaping has been designed to soften the strong white façade, with manicured lawns, structured hedging and classic Hamptons-inspired planting creating a polished yet welcoming street presence. A small water feature with cockatoos introduces a distinctly Australian character, reinforcing the idea of an American-inspired home reinterpreted for a Brisbane setting.

Warm internal and external lighting gives the home depth as the afternoon sun begins to soften, while the subtle appearance of the moon, butterflies and movement of a passer-by with a small white dog make the scene feel lived-in rather than staged.

Overall, the design is a contemporary Brisbane interpretation of the Hamptons Queenslander — traditional in character, highly detailed in its proportions and finishes, but still relaxed, bright and suited to modern Queensland living.

Designed for R Crawley | GC Marine, these floating offices reimagine the workplace as part of the Gold Coast’s waterways. Inspired by a city shaped by one of the world’s largest canal networks, the concept places work directly on the water — flexible, distinctive and unmistakably Gold Coast. More than an office, it is a bold floating destination that connects marine business, lifestyle and place in a completely unique way.
